Family Tree History

Over the past 7 years we have been putting together parts of our family tree...or at least my side. Both my husband and I are adopted. We have been uable to locate his family but I found mine 7 years ago. My husband is very gifted in reseaching and has such patience in the search. We have located one brance of the tree that goes all the way the Seth ( Noahs son). Have found countless famous figures of history and learned so much! It is a fun way to learn history with your kids. Some of the greats in our tree ( and maybe not so nice): Steven Foster, Survivor of the Titanic, Pony Express Rider, Founder of Rhode Island, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Robert Louis Stevenson, William the Conqueror, King Henry 1, Richard 1, Prince Gruffudd Ap Maddog. ( just to name a few) .

The cool part is that I have been able to make the Westward Expansion study so much more fun for my kids by finding families in our family tree who traveled from the east to the west. We have found diary entries as well. Charles Henry Billman is a pony Express Rider who is related to our famiy. We are also directly related to the mormons who came across the country with handcarts. Their stories are so much more fun than a history book.

Hi Tina, that is very interesting about your family tree. So far, we have gotten back to England, Ireland and Holland on one side (mine) and Germany on the other (hubby.)

I've been trying to collect some stories that would add excitement and make the kids more interested. Many of my relatives were killed right here where we live during the Civil War. It amazes the kids that their relatives could have died right where our house is built.

And the cow in the story actually survived!

  2. This is absolutely cool! We are going to do a family tree, though it is hard. On my side of the family, the farthest we have gotten was my grandmother's grandmother who was a slave. She was used for breeding. Because of the logistics of the slave trade, sometimes it is hard to find info. But we will keep trying. I love to research. I'll keep you posted.
