Making Liquid Hand Soap
We got this idea from Tidwad Tuesdays at :
http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/proverbsmama
We changed the recipe a bit.
Homemade Liquid Handsoap
A bars worth of soap scraps, grated or chopped finely ( you know the small bits at the end of the soap bar that you have been saving to do something with someday)
4 Tablespoons of glycerin ( got mine at walmart)
4 cups of water
2 Tablespoons of honey
2 Tablespoons olive oil
favorite herbs or a few drops of essential oil ( if adding oil wait untill the last step )
Combine all ingredients in a heavy sauce pan. Simmer on low till all soap in dissolved.
Strain ( removes herbs and such)
Pour into bottles with plungers. Thickens as it cools. Stir once cool.
Grate or chop soap scraps
Add soap to liquids and herbs.
Simmer untill soap is dissolved
Strain ( what you see are herbs and soap that just would not dissolve after an hour) I use a fine mesh strainer. Same as I use when making paper. Makes the liquid soap smoother.
Use a funnel to put soap in dispenser.
Our soap turned out green because we used mint and rosemary to scent it. It has a nice creamy consistancy. We had enough to fill two large lotion dispensers.
Here is another project we finished this week. This is part of our Unplugged project. ( http://www.unplugyourkids.com/unplugged-project/ ) We made newspaper seed pots. Go here for directions: http://morningstargreentime.blogspot.com/
Ohhh I have heard about these and would love to know how to do this. Where are the instructions to make the paper transplant starters ?
ReplyDeleteI also plan to make the hand soap when I get closer to running out of what we have. We bought the BIG refill container. I have a while to wait. /0=

Thanks for commenting on my blog!
ReplyDeleteThose newspaper pots look like so much fun. I think we will make some. Plus, I really like how you made the soap. My son has been trying to get me to make some soap as a craft project. We will have to try it.
