Homemade Room Freshener
This is so easy and so cheap. Save the peels from your oranges, tangerines, etc. Lemons work too. I dry my peels simply by laying them on the top of a shelf ( way up high ). They take about two weeks to dry completely. When dry break up into small pieces. Put in a decorative container, add a tablespoon or so of cinnamon/cloves/pie spice. Mix well. I place containers of this mix in my bathrooms. They last a long time.
Recycled Yarn
I found this great tutorial on how to recycle yarn from sweaters. http://www.neauveau.com/recycledyarn.html
The gals and I are always looking for yarn and such. This year we want to learn to knit. I work in our churches clothing closet and often we have stuff that is destine for the trash or out of date. I plan on gleaning from the huge sweater pile we have. Also the sweaters will be going on sale soon at our local thrift stores.
Here are some more sites on recycling yarn.

Here are two sweaters I plan to recycle. They are both chenile yarn and very soft. They will make awesome stocking caps.

So save your old sweaters, ask others for their castoffs, and hit the thrift stores right before spring for bagins on sweaters. You could have next Christmas all wrapped up with unique handmade almost free gifts!
That is a great idea for those crafty moms out there. Me -- I'm not so crafty where yarn is concerned. I know how to do hairpin lace crocheting, but that is it.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably just as well since that type of work would aggravate my wrists.
I loved the idea with drying the peels from fruit. I will have to try that one!

Tina, the hair pin lace isn't making lace. It is crocheting. It requires a handheld loom-type of thing to make it.
ReplyDeletePerhaps one of these days I can post a photo or two of some afghans I made, but right now, I'm dealing with losing all of my internet files, so blogging isn't high priority.
