Today I am sharing our dog Captain. A little over a year ago we began looking for another canine furbabie. ( we had lost our beloved Sisko 6 months before). We made a few mistakes a long our search. Found a lovely German Shepherd. Sadly she had sever neurological issues. We found Captain. He is a Greyhound/Coonhound/Lab mix ( we think!). This dog is so loving and sweet. He is also very very smart. However he also is very fearful of everyday stuff. Taking him for a walk is very difficult because he is afraid of everything. As a pup he was dumped and found in the middle of a road. His siblings were found scattered along the same road. We do not know his history with his first and second family. We continue to work with him every day. Progress is slow. We tried to boost his confidence with another dog...we made a mistake and got a dog that was too Alpha for him. ( that is Sheltons story for another post!). So instead of getting another dog he has play dates with my girlfriends dog. This is a win win for both of us. The dogs love getting together and we get to visit also. Captain gets along great with the felines, learns new tricks weekly, and is the best snuggle buddy ever. Teaching him to have courage may take a lifetime but we are in it for the long haul.
