Cookie Crust Pumpkin Dessert

Great alternative to pumpkin pie.  Good Comfort food.


Preheat oven to 325. Lightly grease a 9 by 13 baking dish.


For Crust


1 package yellow cake mix


1/3 cup shortening melted


1 egg


Set aside 1 cup of cake mix. Combine the rest of the ingredients and spread evenly in the botton of the baking dish.


For Filling


1 29 0z can of pumpkin


1/2 cup brown sugar


2/3 cup of milk


3eggs


2 T of pumpkin spice


Mix above ingredients well. Spread evenly on top of previous layer.


Topping


1 cup cake mix


1/4 cup shortening ( not melted)


1/2 cup white sugar


3/4 cup walnuts


Mix well with pastry blender till mixture looks like course crumbs.


Sprinkle evenly over last layer. Press topping down lightly.


Bake at 325 for 45  minutes. Turn oven down to 300 and cook about 15 minutes more or untill top is golden brown. Serve warm or cold with cool whip.
