The Potato Eaters

January 11th

The girls doing a study on DSC_0047potatoeaters3

The Potato Eaters. They are using real potatoes and the colors Van Gogh worked with.

Today we learned who Vincent Van Goghs Contemporaries were ( and what a contemporary is). We studied several of his early drawings and letters that he did while he was living near the mines in Belgium. We learned of his desire to serve the poor and the Lord. We really got a picture of what it was like for the mine workers and the peasants in the field. We spent a great deal of time studying the Potato Eaters: pallet, texture, mood. The girls then did their own drawing in Van Gogh style using only the colors he used in the Potato Eaters. ( we used oil chalks and pencils on paper)
