I have seen this button on lots of blogs. I use to think how silly...my kids go outside alot. Then they got to the tween and teen age. The do not just go out an play at this age. We had a long wet winter this year and it seems we just did not get out as much as we should. So I visit Green Hour often.
We started our green hour this past weekend ( it was actually about 6 hours in all). We had a wonderful day! We spent the day digging and planting in the garden. At the end of the day we sat out side and watched the day fade into night. We had several visitors: robins, mockingbirds, cowbirds, cardnals, finches and a surprise: a woodpecker. He landed on the ground very close to us. We were able to observe him a very long time. As the birds finish up their night time snack and go off to nest down the bats come out. We enjoyed watching the bats eat insects.

My son doesn't like to go outside much after being cooped up winter. We are using green hour here too. We are also starting something called "Project Unplugged" which gives neat ideas to do instead of watching tv or playing on the computer. (My personal favorite.)

Thanks for this link. I just popped over to their site and signed up. We definitely need creative ideas to get us out of the house. I have been concentrating too much lately on the academic portion of school and not giving enough thought or time to PE, nature activities, artistic pursuits, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to the beach today with the grandparents and I will have the kids bring their sketch books, colored pencils and nature journals (which I will be making before we leave).
Thank you, thank you. I am always blessed by something on your site.
