Green Time

I would like to say we spent hours outside studying the budding and blooming of spring...but we didn't. We did plant vegetables in containers, reseed the wildflower garden, start a new herb patio, go to the park and sit outside each evening. We have a wonderful mom and pop nursery here that we love to buy herbs and vegetable plants from. We got patio tomatoes, golden bell peppers, basil, rosemary, and lavender. Its a good start. We have a large double lot and usually do our garden in raised plots. This year we decided to do container gardening to see if we could control bugs better and save on weed and water time. I do not use pesticides. We plan to get banana peppers, squash, more herbs, and pumpkin as well. We did mini pumpkins by accident last year. We had tossed out our ornamental pumkins after the holidays into our garden beds. They came up the following year everywhere. We had a bounty of them!

The kids did explore at the park and find frogs, lizards, and catapillers. In our yard they found butterfly eggs already! We may just raise a few this year.

  1. How funny about the pumpkins! We started a garden again this year and have been enjoying the first fruits of our labor this past week (we mostly blog about that on our family blog at www.homeschoolblogger.com/thisopenroad/ ). We will hopefully get another bed made by the end of next weekend to cook down over the summer (lasagna style) and it'll be ready for planting this fall. I am jealous of your lavender. I tried it once before, about 3 years ago, and it never did well for me.
