Civil War

Note: There is so much information on the Civil War and so many directions you can take with it. It is best in small bites! Take time to limit your topic before you begin. One year we did just Matthew Brady. Another we focused on the Causes and Effect. Other areas: Medicine, Women of the War, Lincoln, Abolitionist,Weapons, Music, Food, Social Life, Forts and Battlefields, Key People of the War, spies. ( and more!)

We are ending our year with the Civil War. The gals will be reading several books and just reviewing the timeline of the war. Living here in the south we have been to many Civil War sites and done so much on the civil war. Our most recent field trip was to Appomattox.

  • Books  ( that we are reading)

The Dred Scott Decision by Brendan January

The Story of the Underground Railroad by R Conrad Stein

The Surrender at Appomattox Court House by Zachary Kent

The Gettysburg Address by Kenneth Richards

Fords Theater and the Death of Lincoln by Zachary Kent

We will be reading portions of

The Underground Railroad by William Still

This is a selection of reports from actual slaves.
