This has been an interesting week. It was extreamly challenging physically. I am having very painful problems with one of my hips and walking is not easy or pleasant. Nor is sitting or sleeping.
Being in the word each day was awesome. The track I am on has taken me through Job. I have always found Job difficult to understand. I get some of it and some of it is just over my head. So here are my notes on this weeks readings.
Here is what I read:
Jan 1: Gen 1-3
Jan 2: Gen 4-7
Jan 3: Gen 8-11
Jan 4: Job 1-5
Jan 5: Job 6-9
Jan 6: Job 10-13
Jan 7: Job 14-16
Jan 8: Job 17-20
Jan 9: Job 21-23
Jan 10: Job 24-28
I am reading in chronological order. You can go here to do that on line: http://www.ewordtoday.com/year/
This seems to be the key verse for all I read this week:
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding. Job 27:28
For all that Job endured this is what he held on to.
When I study I take notes, write down any words I do not understand, ect. I like to look the words up in the Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic to get their true meaning.
My favorite study resources:
http://www.studylight.org/ great for checking Hebrew and Greek meanings
http://biblos.com/ All kinds of study tools
http://www.biblegateway.com/ good for a quick reference on a topic
Words I had needed to look up this week:
Nephilim
giants, the Hebrew word left untranslated by the Revisers, the name of one of the Canaanitish tribes. The Revisers have, however, translated the Hebrew gibborim, in Genesis 6:4, "mighty men."
Felt silly having to look this one up! But I really did not know what it meant.
Ignominy
The word ignominy appears 7 times in the bible.
1. deep personal humiliation and disgrace
2. disgraceful or dishonorable conduct, quality, or action
Buckler
In the old testament the word bucklers is mentioned 9 times.
- A small, round shield either carried or worn on the arm.
- A means of protection; a defense:
Assuaged
The word assuaged can be found 4 times in the old testament.
1. To soften; to allay, mitigate, ease, or lessen pain or grief; to appease or pacify, as passion or tumult; to satisfy, as appetite or desire.
2. To abate or subside
Scripture that had new meaning or particular insight this week:
I loved how in Genesis chapter nine the jobs were mentioned. Keeper of Sheep, Tiller of ground, father of such that dwell in tents and have cattle, father of such as handle the harp and the pipe, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron,
Genesis 10:5 Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations
This is before The tower of Babel. I did not know that people spoke different languages
( tongues) before the Tower of Babel
.
Job 6:24Teach me, and I will hold my peace; And cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
That Job who was innocent uttered such words. I need to utter these words more often. Very convicting scripture which is timeless.
Next weeks readings
Jan 10: Job 24-28
Jan 11: Job 29-31
Jan 12: Job 32-34
Jan 13: Job 35-37
Jan 14: Job 38-39
Jan 15: Job 40-42
Jan 16: Gen 12-15
Jan 17: Gen 16-18

I pray your hip gets better. I know how it is, in pregnancy i get problems with nerves sometimes and momentarily i can't walk. Thankfully it never affected me sitting or lying.
