Doing Art ( Show and Tell Friday)

We are very fortunate to be able to have an awesome Art Museum really close to our home. We go about 3 times each month. The gals sketch and study a painting that they have studied about at home. This spring we are doing mostly American Impressionist. The museum has a nice collection.

We also are treated with traveling exhibits throughout the year. These are fabulous! This spring the theme is glass. Such a treat. I hope you will take the time to check out the links to see the beautiful art.

Lino Tagliapietra

So beautiful! I love his story.

Karen LaMonte

Dresses made of glass!  Pictures do not do them justice. They are stunning. ( they are hollow!)

Beth Lipman

This artist does fabulous work! It is shocking at first to walk into the room and see beautiful glass items all in a jumble, sometimes broken. But her talent for putting it together and making it pleasing to the eye is amazing! It really appeals to the senses.

Cameo

We learned so much from this exhibit! There was a fabulous demonstration on how cameo is made.

Awesome video showing how cameo is made.

We love the hands on experience we get at the museum. The docents are always welcome the chance to share information. There are often workshops and demonstrations with the exhibits. In May we will be able to experience live glassblowing. Also in May we get to see Fiddlesticks Jewelry. This is a local artist. I love her work! The Venetian Collection is my favorite.  You can purchase her beautiful art.  We are saving for a piece!  http://www.fiddlesticksonline.com/FSO_home.htm

Perhaps some of these exhibits will come to a museum near you!

  1. Thank you sooooooooo much for sharing this ! Wonderful links ...... as always. You are very blessed to have a WONDERFUL art museum. We have nothing like that unless we go a LONG days drive to the coast. I have had the desire to work with lamp work beads. But not for now. Maybe someday.

  4. Wow - this is fabulous that you have this opportunity to be so involved in an art museum and to provide your kids such a culturely rich education. This is a blessing!

I love this art museum with all the glass stuff you've showed - I've never seen anything like that.

This was an excellent show and tell - very educational and inspirational as well!
