Weekly Wrap Up

From the Heart: Once again I find myself having to carve out time to spend with the Lord. It was so easy at camp. I can find a zillion things to do at home that distract me. I really must work on putting my quiet time first.

Spiritual Growth: While at camp we had “GI for Jesus”. This character would pop into our classes and request scripture of an individual.  (if you did not have one you got a small water balloon deposited on your head! It was all in fun with a purpose) I learned I did not know too many scriptures by heart. This week I have been jotting down short scripture to memorize. Since I struggle with this (learning disability) it will be a challenge. I figure if I keep them short I will be successful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.  Col: 3:16

On the Homefront: Lots of cleaning went on this week. Two of my kids had the swine flu so cleaning and sanitizing daily was necessary.  All are well now!

My youngest daughter turned 13 this week. She is happy to officially be a teen. Most important is she now has her own bedroom. (because our oldest has moved out) We had a family party, went to the movies, fixed her favorite meals, and her favorite cake.

She got new stuff to make her room her own, gift certificates to Rack Room Shoes ( she wanted Converse Shoes), Ross, and Sears. She plans to buy paint at Sears for her room.

This was our first family celebration without our oldest child. It seemed odd and sad to me. He called his sister and chatted with her on the phone.

In the School Room: It’s that time again! I have been going through many piles of “planning stuff”.  I have organized shelves, tossed a ton of paperwork I no longer need, and am now working on organizing files on the computer. I am on the homestretch and near the end of planning for the upcoming year.  I will put up a separate post on our school soon.

In the Literary Scene I am reading The Quilt of Life by Mary Tatem  I love the short devotions that celebrate Gods work in our lives.

Praying the Scruptures for your Children by Jodie Berndt. Reading this again. It is a good book that keeps you focused on giving your childrens needs to the Lord.

Watu by Jim Clair. We recently met a couple that have been missionaries in Africa for the past 33 years.  This is their first book. It is a comical look about their cross cultural experiences.

On the Mission Field: It is in the hottest days of summer that we see the truely homeless vs just the folks that like to hang out on the street. We served 36 yesterday. Most of the prayer was for addictions, jobs, a place to live.

On the creative side: I really want to be working on my daughters quilt….

Tightwad Living: Lots of that going on! Dear daughter’s birthday was a challenge. We were blessed. So we were able to bless her!  We also had free movie tickets set aside. We skipped eating out and prepared her favorite meals at home.  Made our own birthday banners.

In the Garden: The new garden has thrived this year. It’s on the outside of our fence facing the street. Folks stop to look at it and comment.  I love it for the bugs and bees I get to observe and the beautiful color. The wildflower garden is near done for the year and I need to cull and weed it. I will set seed aside to reseed for next year.  The Queen Annes Lace and Batchlor Buttons took over the garden so I need to bring back the other flowers.

Lifestyle Change Progress: Still 4 lbs up from camp but I am working on it. I need to get back into walking daily and strengthening.

In the Kitchen:  Lots of comfort food this week! Potato Pie, Mexican Sheppard’s Pie, Tacos, Grilled Steak,  and Chicken. Fresh peaches, nectarines, and strawberries.  I was able to freeze some peaches. We get to glean from left over produce and fruit each week. This is such a blessing!

  1. I didn't realize I had missed this until you commented. Happy belated birthday to your dd! I was gone all last week on vacation, so I know I have a few others to catch up too. I love that pic of your dd. What is funny is that I know that I was on your blog a couple of times that week...I'm not sure how I missed this!

Anyway...I'm glad you brought my attention to this, even if it is your last one since I love reading these!

I hope you are having a great week this week.

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. Psalms 143:8
