No weigh in this week. ( I am kind to myself during that time!) However I did get back into the jeans that were so tight after the holidays. Happy Dance!
I walked 3 days this week. Ate much more fiber and fruit and much less refined foods.
I am still dealing with the 3pm slump. Need a nap? Miss my coffee? Want sugar? or all of the above! This is the time we started walking so that should help.
Goals this week are:
- To walk every day and increase the distance. Because of my physical limitations I have to work up slowly. Before I stopped walking I was able to go quite a distance. This weeks goal: To the park and back. Thats 12 blocks round trip.
- Reduce more refined* foods in my diet. ( anything with white flour, sugar, or high in preservatives)
- Work on portion control. I was very good at this before the holidays! I just need to DO it!
- No food after dinner. Night time snacking is big in our house. Popcorn, cheese and crackers, ice cream ect.
*A note on refined or processed foods. Read about it! Knowledge is good! You may find that you are addicted to specific refined foods or like me have allergies and sensitivity to food additives. There is no test for these allergies and nutritionist are slowly beginning to reconize that this type of allergy or sensitivity is a problem. You have to do the research, keep a journal and eliminate foods. I know I am sensitive to MSG and all artifical sweetners,Sulphur dioxide and sodium benzoate, I also react to some nuts because of the perservative. So experiment!

There is also a difference between food intolerence and allergy. Lots to study in this area. Getting to know your body and what makes it function is the best gift you can give yourself!

Good Morning, Tina! You sound like you're slowly but surely getting back into the groove of things for yourself. Good for you!! I'm having a really hard time making myself exercise; I'll eventually get there, just struggling right now. I'm so glad for you that you're making headway, though! I'm also relieved to see that you and Chas are fighting the afternoon slump as well. Mine is at 2 p.m., and it's so hard most days pushing through that without napping! Working on it, though. :)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!! You're doing awesome!!
love,
Shani
Hi Tina! I shared w/Chasity that at 3pm, you need a good shot of protein along with a few carbs. The protein keeps your gut from absorbing the carbs too rapidly, which keeps you from having such big blood sugar swings...helps the carbs "last" longer. We use beef jerky around here, you could try yogurt, peanut butter on an apple or banana, etc. A cup of tea (with caffeine) is a good idea, too. I find afternoon coffee just doesn't sit well with me, and it tends to make me more tired. But black tea works wonders!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're doing great, keep up the good work! I did NOTHING this week...I'm so tired, and my back is recovering! Maybe next week...
Blessings,
Lori (WLW at http://www.homesteadblogger.com/serenityinthesuburbs )
I'll be back later to read up on the tips, I've been under the weather and I am headed to bed but wanted to jump in for WLW

Hey girlie!! Congrats on getting in those jeans. Sometimes I think weighing is really overated. Thanks for all those links, I really need to check them out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your kind words and prayers. We will be traveling 4 hours tomorrow to the funerals. Hope to be back home early on Sat. Then hubby preaches Sun...and we leave right after church to go to Orlando. He is attending a camp meeting and we are checking out housing. I will post WLW next week, just may not be much on my progress, since I will not be home to weigh and such.
Love you and hope you have a great rest of the week and weekend.
Be blessed,
Chasity
ok, have posted a day late!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are managing to keep up. We cook a lot of food ourselves. I made a home made bakewell tart today, which has almond flour and selmolina, it is yummy and I always use wholegrain flour, brown sugar e.t.c. It is scones tomorroe, made with wholegrain stoneground, organic flour!
