Weekly ( or almost monthly) Wrap Up

We finished school for the year (2010) with a biology lab. It was a very cool dissection! Photos do not describe the reactions of my gals when I pulled this out!
One child was thrilled the other not at all excited about seeing the heart, liver gal bladder, lungs, stomach, intestine, fat bodies and more of the frog. I enjoyed the process more than my kids! Most likely because I was not paying attention when I took Biology and missed out on all the fun.
Hands on school is the best. The gals did lots of diagrams and studying prior to the dissection. Each was able to identify all of the parts that we could locate. ( we could not find the pancress)

So these ( the photos) loaded backwards.... this was at the end. We got a great lesson on the spinal cord and all the veins.

Cutting him open was hard. This specimen was very tough.

The frog has vomerine teeth on the roof of their mouth. They are sharp and easy to feel.

Stay tuned for future dissections. We have 3 more planned.

We have had our first snow and several light snowfalls since. With three of us taking photos sometimes the photos do not get uploaded to the computer in a timely fashion. Here is the first snow fall of the year. What are the kids doing? Well they are attempting to catch the snowflakes on their tongues! I promise you there were snowflakes falling!

The first snow is always special! No there is not much there but it sure was fun. We have had snow on the ground for a week now. Rare for this area. It usually falls and melts within hours. We are enjoying a cozy winter this year.

Speaking of cozy our beloved dog knows just how to warm up when he is cold. He puts himself right up to the fireplace screen, warms one side and then turns around and warms the other. We have seen him do this often. Pardon the bird seed mess on the floor. Anyone who owns birds knows you can vacuum up the seed mess in the morning and by afternoon it looks as though you never cleaned.

We are thankful for this little fireplace this year.

  1. Goodness, I have seen a dissected from since school. Don't think we'll be doing them. :)
Glad you are getting some snow. And you have a very pretty fireplace.

  2. I'm not fond of this subject and left much of the teaching to my husband and even found some DVD blessings to help me.

Thanks for your update! We are thankful for our fireplace, too :)

  3. I just loved that you posted pics of your fireplace ! I pray that that fireplace makes your home feel nice and toasty. May it keep you warm inside and out. And PTL that you were given some firewood. ((HAPPY DANCE))

I have to admit it is a ewe thing for me and dissecting. But when I was in 6th grade I loved it, lol. It made me smile to see your kids trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues. [0=
