Creative in the Kitchen

There is a season for everything. I guess right now most of my creative juices end up in the kitchen. No desire to pull out the unfinished crafts, or knit or crochet.

Here are this weeks new and found again recipes.
First recipe came from Jenn. Crustless Quiche
In the oven.
This was yummy! I did not get a photo of the finished product...by the time I remembered it was gone. Thanks Jenn! Jenns Crustless Quich We will be making this again.

This is a classic. Russian Tea Cookies. Easy to make. Hard to resist! Again I forgot to get a photo before they were nearly gone!
You can find the recipe here Russian Tea Cookies  It is the same as mine.
I love pound cake. What I love about this recipe is that is was quick and easy to make, tasted better than Sara Lee, had an awesome texture and everyone loves it.A little goes a long way. Its very sweet.

I found the recipe here. Sour Cream Pound Cake The cake can be frozen for a quick dessert later ( for unexpected guest etc). This is awesome served with tart fruit such as strawberries and blueberries ( with out sugar )
The next recipe we tried this week was Red Lobster Cheese Bread. We don't eat at Red Lobster so I am clueless as to what the original actually taste like. We LOVE this bread. However we renamed it Biscuit Cheese Bread. It has the texture and taste of a really good biscuit. The seasonings and cheese make it amazing. Love that I can slice it! Be sure to mix just enough to mix all the ingredients and no more. I used 1 cup grated cheese instead of chunks of cheese.

We only cooked ours for 30 minutes and it was done. I think the instructions said 45 to 50 minutes. Ovens vary. I found this recipe here Biscuit Cheese Bread This is a hearty bread. I served it with homemade chilli.
Speaking of homemade chilli, homemade does not always mean totally from scratch. In my book if you made it in your kitchen its homemade. Here is our chilli reccipe. It is truely from all things canned and frozen. I defrost the meat right before I cook it.
Serves 5. Takes a few minutes to put together. Cooks in 1/2 and hour.
1 lb lean hamburger
2 16 oz your favorite canned chilli beans ( we like bushes)
2 cups water
1 sm can tomato paste
1 Chilli seasoning package of your choice. ( we like McCormic because it does not have MSG)
Brown meat ( use the same sauce pan you will heat the chilli in)  lightly. Add all the ingredients and stir. Put a lid on the pot and cook on med high for 30 minutes.
I am sure you can add more to this ( like canned tomatoes) but this is how my family likes it.
Enough food! How about something cute?
Becoming BFFs

See the blanket on the wood boxes? Thats because this cute pup ate some pine bark out of the wood box and got very sick. We have to watch him like a hawk. We did learn that pumpkin and rice make great binders for loose stools! He loves pumpkin.

  2. Glad you liked the quiche. It's almost weekly on my winter menu because you can do so many varieties and eggs are cheap! I'm going to resist the urge to try the cheese bread. I love that stuff and can't control myself! This season is going to be hard for me!
