Week Three in Review

We did not accomplish everything on the "list' and that is okay!

We enjoyed the journey. See photos at the top of the blog.

I really enjoy it when art is no longer a class that we do but

becomes part of our everyday. The girls enjoyed learning Van Goghs

hatching technique. We used many different media and discovered

thick paint is the best. We spend lots of time looking at Van Goghs

works. The girls began to see patterns in his styles and specific

colors used over and over. They also picked up the emotions his

paintings convey.

January 22nd

We looked at many many drawings that display the hatching style. We discovered "hatching" with pencil and crayon. ( not as easy to do as it looks!)

January 23rd

Today we looked at many paintings that show hatching and practice hatching with oil chalks and paint.

Paintings we looked at:

Still Live With Lemons

Portrait of the Art Dealer

Self Portrait 1886

The Light Hat

The Straw Hat

Lost In Thought

Starry Night

Cafe Terrace a Night

Doctor Gachet 1880

The Church at Auvers

The Yellow House

Olive Orchard

Noon Rest

Still Life With Onions

Pere Tanguy 1888

Four Sunflowers

Road with Cypress and Star

A Study in Yellow

The Night Cafe

Fountain in the Garden of Asylum ( pen and ink)

January 24th

The girls finished up their "hatching" technique paintings and did some drawings.

January 25th

We had a light day. The girls did some drawing. We are still working on still life techniques. They enjoy being able to draw everyday objects. We will put all this practice into good use soon!
