New Year Goal: To Be a Godly Woman

As wives, moms, teachers, and so much more we often do not take time to "feed" ourselves. I am making a point to rise earlier this year, to get into the word, spend time with the Lord. Last year I made a commitment to read through the bible in a year. I did not complete the goal but really enjoyed the 34 percent I did finish and I plan to finish the rest this year! I use this site to help me:  http://www.bibleshared.com/ This started out as a HSB Meme. While the Meme sorta fizzled the habit did not. I so enjoyed digging deeper in the word. Here is another daily bible reading site. Its easy to navigate. http://net.bible.org/daily.php?month=1&day=1&plan=daily#n6

One of the studies I will be doing is Cindy' Rushtons Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman. You can hear this study free of charge on Mom to Mom Radio. http://momtomomradioshow.com/  This is audio so you can download it. I highly recommend you start from the beginning: Be Dependable. These are a bit long...at least for my morning schedule. So I split the time and do it in two sessions.

Would anyone like to read through the bible in a year with me? Suziscribbles started a meme last year that went strong for a while but fizzled out. I would love to do a bible meme. Let me know if you would like this.

  1. This might just be a good go-along with the Bible Study I plan to start with my girls (A Virtuous Girl by QueenHomeschool).

Thanks for sharing & Happy New Year!

  2. I do like to read my Bible as much as I can, but when I try to do official read the Bible plans, it makes my quiet times dry and too scheduled. I do use the Torah Portions, that gives me Torah (first five books) portions, Prophet portions, and New Testament portions each week. It gets through the Torah and the New Testament, but I think the Prophets every 3 years. It doesn't seem to cover the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, etc. Ruth Fleming gave me a great idea of how to read those, so I am going to read a Proverb that goes with the day of the month, and five Psalms that matches the day of the month plus factors of 30, ie. Psalm 22, 52, 82, 112, and 142 (for the 22nd of the month). If I don't get it covered, that is okay, because I can do it the next month!

The Provers 31 study sounds great, but right now I need to focus my Bible study on a fundraising study I am doing...

    Have a good day, Tina!

  4. I don't think I can, with the Survey and soon to be the intensive study in Hebrews; they give me at least 20 to 30 minutes of digging into the Scriptures, matching OT prophecy and writings with NT fulfillments, commentary, and continuations (depending on what it was in TOT); I do want to try to get some more "private" prayer time, though, just to pray through some of the personal growth and walk things that are on my heart with Him. With kids getting older, I definately need to step up prayer for their future-mates, their future vocations, their future role as leaders in their own homes, etc. This is so much on my heart!

Have a wonderful entrance into this new decade!

    Blessings,

  5. I have found that when I try to read the bible through in a year, it becomes a religious chore, and takes the joy out of it for me. Now that doesn't mean that I don't find time to read through all the books of the bible; I just don't do it consecutively, nor do I do it in a year's time. Sometimes, I will find that I can spend a month in the same book, just devouring nuggets and meditating on new insights. One of my favorite things to do is an in-depth study, using several different translations. Unfortunately, I don't do that much since I started working outside the home.

Happy New Year! I wish you God's favor and success in all you do this year!

  7. What a timely post. I went yesterday to listen to what Cindy had to say. What a good message. You are soooooooooo right. When we put God first then everything else will fall in place. I want to be on this with you but I have truely found it hard to ready enough each day. I will say I will join but if I take 2 or 3 years to get through well....that is okay but I am getting there any ways. ( just slower, lol)

Thank you for always showing that you want to put God first. Each day is new with fresh beginnings.

    Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC
