Treasures

We frequent a thrift store in our neighborhood. ( its within walking distance). This past week we learned they are going out of business. Everything was marked half price. I had been looking at these dishes for a long time. They were all stacked in a milk crate...not lovingly wrapped as they should have been! I love the pattern but I do not NEED dishes. I just love them. We researched the pattern and discovered that these dishes were quite valuable. I paid 20 dollars for them. They are worth so much more. But its not the worth. They are beautiful and a pleasure to enjoy and use. DD2 has already requested them for her hope chest.

Other treasures found: Fair Winds Brown Toile Transferware Bowl: 25 cents, Pfaltsgraph platter ( to replace the one that got broken, our wedding dishes) 75 cents, and a pretty Chinese plate for our dd.

  2. Tina, be careful with these dishes. Our local news channel did a story recently about lead in dishes. It was SHOCKING to say the least. The dishes with the most lead were the ones that had the most colorful designs in them. If you want to find the story on the lead, you can go to www.wthr.com and search for it on their site.

  5. Lovely, Tina! How many full place settings did you get? That's a great deal, regardless of the #, and if you got a pretty full set, you got a STEAL!

They remind me of my grandmother's china; my mom had it after she took ill, and then, sadly, my sister got it...she's never home, doesn't cook much anymore, divorced, no family gatherings...ah well, we can't always have these things! Maybe I'll find a great set at a thrift shop someday! My town is full of overpriced "antique malls," so for their prices I could just buy a pretty new set. Neither one of those options works!

GREAT find, you are such a good thriftwoman!

    Blessings,

  6. (follow up...)

That should have been that my mom got the china after my grandmother took ill...my mom is still with us and I'm delighted of that!

  7. I understood! Growing up I was moved so much from home to home and my last "foster home" is where I learned to love dishes. But I did not inherit any of them. They are only things of this earth...pleasure for a short time. I am blessed to have so many thrift storees. We too have the high end antique places....great for window shopping and perhaps dreaming! It is cool to take the kids and study the stuff. One time the owner of the store inquired as to why my dds were not in school. I told him this is their school today. Would you like to share about one of your treasures? Indeed he did!

  8. 12 dinner plates, 12 salad plate, 12 soup bowls, 12 tea saucers, 2 butter pats, ...by far not complete but for the price and the beauty all is good. Only one tiny tiny chip on one of the butter pat dishes.
