Pumpkin Spice Bread

I have been making this bread since my oldest was two. It is a family tradition and must be made each year from October untill spring arrives. One year I tried not to make it....there was munity and I was forced to comply!!!!

Warning: Not low in calorie....not to "tightwaddy" Habit forming!!!!

Combine

3 and 3/4 cups flour, 2 tsp. soda, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Cream

2 sticks margarine  ( can use vegetable shortening or real butter but not vegetable oil)

Gradually add: 2 cups of sugar and cream well. Blend in 4 eggs and beat well.

Add dry ingredients alternately with 1 and 1/2 cups of pumpkin ( canned or fresh cooked).

Stir in 12 oz chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped nuts. ( bread is good with or without these items)

Turn into two greased 9 by 5 pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Cool completely. Remove from pan and glaze.

Spice Glaze

1 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4tsp cinnamon, dash of powdered cloves. Blend in 3 to 4 Tablespoons of hot water.

This bread is best served the following day. Wrap and store in fridg or better yet freeze it! It does well in the freezer for 6 months.
