Show and Tell Friday

I hope you are all enjoying a change of weather! We had a very productive week in school.

Our first science experiment was about "concentration".

Our second about units of measure

Our third about humidity

Gals at work on a Lapbook for History. This is their favorite subject. I was going to "not" do lapbooks this year. But they have other ideas!

My 12 year old dd loved Mary's post last week about her counted cross stitch. ( me too!) She found my box with my long lost cross stitch treasures in it and made this for me. Her very first try...without instruction.  The frame was one of her creations from a few years ago.

And of course there are changes in the garden. The Black Eyed Susans are all but done. However the chives are blooming beautifully.

  1. The kids look like they are having great fun. Since I have began to do lots more hands on things I think we are remembering more things.

Great job by your dd on her crossstitch.

  3. Isn't it nice to be able to kill two birds with one stone...uh...I mean teach 2 at the same time? He-he! I got to do that twice: my two oldest and then 10 years later my 2 youngest. Oh, and now my 2 grandsons with reading. I guess that's 3 times.

  4. Hi,

    I love your pics.

Looks like what we would enjoy doing.

As for the Creation Studies mentioned at my blog.

    They are very hands-on.

We have done the following and there are lots more.

Math: Make a metric conversion chart, study area of your yard and map it out, research calendar system, Arks dimension activity, learn about fractals (this was an online fav).

Science: Make a tongue map, Research how scientists dated earth, make a fossil print, using a magnifying glass in nature, examine the night sky, stage your own `creation demonstration`, entropy experiment, sedimentation experiment, demonstrate porosity, remove oxygen from air, create rain, map worldwide bird migration patterns, observe wood burning, study variations within species, grow algae, light wave experiment, make vapor canopy.

    On & On & On

  6. What a great first week and a gift to boot!!! I've tossed around doing lapbooks, but I thought my 13 yr old would be too old. We've never done them, but we've heard great things about them!!! Our co-op talked about using them for the Gen Science we're doing. I believe we'll try them!!

I love black-eyed susans. They are one of my favorites!!! You'll have to enjoy them for me!!! I hope you have a great weekend!

    Thanks for sharing,

  7. Wow, you all are doing so many great things with your schooling! My kids would like to join your class *grin*

We could sure help you out with a lesson on humidity today......i could swim through the air outside it's so thick.

    Her crosstitch is precious!

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Yikes! So how does a well catch fire? Ours is a steel pipe lined with white plastic pipe with holes in it, 360 feet down. The pump is down there somewhere. But we don't have a well house or anything, and the piping to the cabin, etc. is underground and goes to the pressure tank indoors straight from the well. Did your pump catch fire? Scratch one pump, but surely it wouldn't be able to burn in a well pipe full of water? *scratches head*

  14. What a wonderful week, scientifically speaking, lol! I give you and other moms so much credit when you do science. I don't like it, so I don't make time for it. I think I've blown it up into something far larger than what it actually is. You're inspiring me to give it another go. :)

Tell your daughter she did a lovely job on her first cross-stitch project! I began about that age as well, and absolutely love it.

Have a wonderful week, my friend!
